Red Roses, Afternoon Light

Oil on canvas, 2026

Red Roses, Afternoon Light captures a fleeting domestic moment- a simple bouquet resting in a glass vase, illuminated by gentle afternoon light. The composition is intentionally pared back: a neutral wall, a wooden surface, and a small heart-shaped object placed beside the flowers. The simplicity allows colour and light to carry the emotion.

The deep crimson roses become the focal point, their velvety petals layered with subtle shifts between shadow and highlight. Against the soft, textured background, the red reads rich but not overpowering. The transparency of the glass vase introduces contrast- fluid reflections, refracted stems, and the quiet geometry of water.

The painting explores the balance between bold colour and restrained atmosphere. It is a study in warmth, stillness and tenderness.
